JOHN J. "JACK" KRAFT, Honorary Class '78, coached the Rhode Island basketball team from 1974-81, compiling a 123-96 (.562) overall record that included three 20-win seasons, two trips to the NIT, and one trip to the NCAA Tournament. His best season was 1977-78, when the Rams finished 24-7 and he was named New England Coach of the Year. Over his career, which included a highly successful stint at Villanova, he won more than 360 games. He was Eastern College Coach of the Year three times and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coach of the Year in 1971. After retiring from coaching, he remained at the University and was active with the Rhode Island Athletic Association.
