ROBERT E. MILLER '49, won six letters in football and track in the 1940s and co-captained the track team, for which he excelled as New England and AAU champion in shotput and hammer. He was an Olympic tryout finalist in 1948. Eminently successful as the head of the physical education department at Pilgrim High in Warwick, he was also a championship football coach there, compiling a 129-70-4 record. He also coached the track team. A member of the Rhode Island Football Coaches Hall of Fame, he served with the Navy in the South Pacific for more than three years.
