LAWRENCE BARRETT JR. '43 ran cross-country and track at Rhode Island from 1940-43, lettering in both sports and helping the Rams to the 1941 NCAA cross-country championship. He placed fifth in the 1941 New England Championship as the Rams took the team title and placed seventh at the IC4A championship, which the Rams also won. That year, Barrett was twenty-second in the NCAA championship. Barrett was also a member of the 1942 cross-country team that won the New England and IC4A championships and was third in the NCAA title run. As a junior, his last year under the accelerated academic program, he was among the Rams' top three runners and won the New England AAU title.
