BOB PELTIER ('59) was a three-year starter on both the football and baseball teams from 1956-59. He was the most athletic lineman on the Rams, playing on the offensive line as a guard and playing linebacker on defense. He was also one of the fastest interior lineman in the Yankee Conference. Peltier played right field for the Rhode Island baseball team and batted either third or fourth all three seasons with the varsity team. He used his speed to cover ground in the outfield and played right field because of his strong throwing arm. He was among the team leaders in extra base hits and RBIs in all three of his years with the varsity team. Peltier started for both the freshmen football and baseball teams in his first year in Kingston as freshman were not able to play varsity at the time. After graduating from Rhode Island in 1959, Peltier went on to become a successful high school football coach in Rhode Island at Westerly High, West Warwick High and Coventry High, where he reintroduced football in 1964. He led Coventry to two state championships as the head coach and two as an assistant coach. As the head coach at Coventry High his team once put together a 24-game unbeaten streak over two and half seasons. As an assistant coach at West Warwick High under Monk Maznicki, he helped the Wizards win four state titles. Peltier was a teacher of physiology, biology and physical education for 34 years, spending 29 of them in Coventry, along with stints at Westerly and West Warwick. Peltier lives in Coventry with his wife Marilyn. The couple has two children, Beth and Stephen.
