ROBERT G. DISPIRITO, SR. '53, Little All-America guard for Rhode Island in the early 50s, compiled a distinguished football coaching record at Bridgeport University and Slippery Rock State College. A three-time Coach of the Year in Pennsylvania, winning NAIA District Coach of the Year honors, his teams won more than 73 percent of their games. He was football captain for two years and a three-year baseball standout at Rhode Island, earning six varsity letters along with two-year All-Conference guard and linebacker honors. He was named outstanding Italo-American athlete in Rhode Island in 1952 and is a member of the Providence Gridiron Club Hall of Fame. Twice in three years he took Slippery Rock to the NCAA playoffs, winning three straight Conference titles.
