CARL L. "SWEDE" COLEMAN '15, star of the Rhode Island State College relay, track and baseball teams for four years in the early 1900s, won eight letters and captained the track team. An outstanding pitcher, he had a long career as both coach and player on schoolboy, college, and local community teams. A Colby Academic teacher-coach, he coached both track and baseball. He taught at the Gilbert School, Winsted, Conn., for 38 years until retirement in 1958, when he was honored by the town of Winsted and fellow coaches and athletic officials for his outstanding career
