MARSHALL H. TYLER, nicknamed "Tip," has been given much credit for establishing and developing athletics at RISC. He coached football for 11 years and baseball for 16, and was a track official. An 1897 graduate of Amherst College and a professor of mathematics at RISC, he began as Master of the Prep School in 1898. He was a longtime member of the Advisory Committee to Athletics and chaired the School's Blanket Tax Committee for Athletics. Attesting to his popularity on campus, he was an honorary member of Delta Alpha Psi, the sophomore class in 1911, and the class of 1921. The 1914 Grist was dedicated to him. He spent 44 years at RISC, and Tyler Hall in the Engineering Quadrangle is named in his honor.
