LEONARDO "LEN" MERCURIO '83 was URI's all-timer leading scorer in soccer with 52 goals in 59 games and 126 career points at the time of his induction. He held single-season records for most goals (23), assists (14) and points (60) in 1979, when he was an All-American. He was also named All-Yankee Conference three times and All-New England twice. In 1979 he was the nation's third leading scorer while leading the Rams to the New England Championship and the Final 8. He was the MVP of the New England College All-Star game in 1978 and later played professionally in the ASL, where he was an All-Star in 1981. In 1984, Mercurio was Player of the Year in the New England Portuguese LASA League. He coached soccer at Brown and Bryant and with the Rhode Island Stingrays.
