IRVING H. "SHORTY" FOLSWORTH '39, All-American weightman at Rhode Island in the mid-to-late 1930s, won three letters in 1936-38 and was track captain in 1938. He was national champion in AAU, metropolitan, intercollegiate 16- and 35-pound weight events, and holds numerous metropolitan, New England and intercollegiate weight records. He is a Helms Athletic Foundation honorary U.S. Olympic Team member for 1944. Folsworth won many medals in hammer, shotput, discus, and 35- and 56-pound weights from 1939 to 1947 while competing for the New York Athletic Club. He was a sales engineer and vice president of Grinding, Inc., specializing in abrasive work for many years.
