JAMES J. FEDERICO, SR. '35, for over 30 years one of RhodeIsland's all-time schoolboy coaches and considered by many as thegreatest in history, retired at Westerly High School as athleticdirector and coach of basketball, baseball, and football. Aphysical education center and gymnasium were named in his honor,and he won the Frank Lanning Award in 1953. A member of the RhodeIsland Secondary School's Basketball Hall of Fame, he earned sixletters in and as captain of the basketball team at Rhode IslandState College. He also distinguished himself as a member of thebaseball team. He was an active member of numerous civic, cultural,and educational organizations.
